Travel Boston – Walk The Freedom Trail

Posted on June 22, 2026June 22, 2026

Boston is a historical and fabulous city for an East Coast visit! It’s nothing like New York City and also has many historical sites and tons of history. There are also many places in surrounding areas that you can visit if you have time for an extended stay. I traveled to Boston for a quick three night adventure and it was just what I needed for a quick getaway and to see the city! Next time, I got to Boston I hope to explore Salem, Massachusetts, aka “the witch city’. I’d love to see Martha’s Vineyard too and relax on an East Coast beach town and compare to Southern California. I traveled to Boston the first weekend of June and the weather was hot and remained warm into the evenings.

When you get to Boston, you MUST walk The Freedom Trail!

The Freedom trail is a 2.5 mile walk throughout Boston that guides you with a brick road and to many historical sites. Walking The Freedom Trail will give you an overview of the whole city and you will walk through a majority of the main areas. You can print Freedom Trail maps online or stop by the Freedom Trail visitor center and buy a map for $3 and ask any questions you need. You can probably walk the whole Freedom Trail in 3 hours, however, many people like to stop, get food or drinks and take their time during the walking adventure.

Other ways to explore the city of Boston

I was eager to Walk the Freedom trail right away and with the changing weather. I was glad I did it right away and to fight my jet lag from a red eye too. Walking the Freedom trail acquainted me with the city and gave me great insight and overview and helped me navigate for the rest of my trip.

I did a Boston city bike tour another day and the tour was able to take me to new areas, like Boston College, and gave me more history about the fine city. I highly recommend doing a group bike tour while in Boston! Boston is mainly a flat city and biking around it easy. I did opt in for electric bike and enjoyed that too! I recommend Boston Urban Adventours – the bike guides love their city!

Other recommendations for things to do in Boston:

  • Visit the Boston Aquarium
  • Go to Boston’s oldest Pub – Bell in Hand
  • Explore the harbor area and sea views
  • Eat the world famous Boston Creme Pie at the Omni Parker House

Inspiration

“Through travel, adventure and art, we learn to create, to wander, and to see the world—and ourselves—through new eyes, washed in unfamiliar colors. As we deepen our self-knowing through exploring cultures and lifestyles it develops new perspectives. The lens through which we experience reality begins to shift, again and again. Seeing the beauty of the world teaches of the interconnected universe we all live in. Each of us longing for the same freedoms: happiness, love, and a vision of paradise we can finally call home.”
